March Spring Preening
Time for a refresh and for what it's worth, I'm sharing my brows, colorist and stylist recommendations from my little Black Book.
This year has been so terrible that on the first of every month I have been pretending it’s New Year’s Day. So here we are… March 1. Happy New Year! I am determined to turn things around this month and instead of Spring Cleaning, I’m Spring Preening. self care is a phrase that’s overused and I’ve never liked it anyway… but it happens to be what I am talking about. I’m going in to my for a tune up of several neglected areas and I thought why not share the places and people I use in case any fellow New Yorkers are looking for the same thing.
For BROWS I got to Nicky Cayot and would never go anywhere else.
Nicky can do absolutely anything- I never do laminated brows or microblading but of course she can do all of that. She will wax anything, lift your lashes, tint them… whatever you want. She is highly in demand, but have a little patience and don’t you dare miss your appointment!
For facials… The best there is, Jaime Carson of Carson Skin Care tragically moved to Austin. Well, I say tragically because I live here, but when I go to SXSW every year, I head to her straight from the airport. Lucky you, Austin people! You can follow Jaime on IG for her knowledge and tips no matter where you live though and she knows everything about anything in skin care.
In New York, I go to Ingrid Tsung …if I can get an appointment. She is incredible and very in demand, but once you are in you won’t believe the effects. The first time I went to Ingrid, she did the Diamond Microdermabrasion and suddenly everyone was asking me for ID. True Story.
Hair? For decades I have gone to Josh B for my cuts. Those who know Josh know that Paulina Porizkova is a client, that he is a tremendous talent, and that he is intimidatingly handsome. Josh has cut my hair for decades and has seen my image, career and self go through hell and back. My husband and son also go to Josh and now so will you. You will leave with great hair, a new world view most likely and a complete therapy session. He also home brews an amazing product, Whizkid, which works beautifully and smells divine
(Josh B cuts my hair and I get to look at Gucci wallpaper while he does it.)
For Hair Color, the love of my life, David Stanko abandoned me (how could he) for LA several years ago. So, LA, please find him if you haven’t already. David’s career is extensive and impressive involving product development, innovative techniques, education and artistry… but why I love him is because he can make me blonde and it looks completely natural. In fact he is a blonde-creating and maintaining expert. Angela Carroll was David’s right-hand woman for years and now Angela colors me and my husband here in NY and yes…. she can also make me naturally blonde at a moments’ notice.
(Angela Carroll makes me blonde!)
This is my limit as far as what I can afford for this month’s phase of resurfacing. Let me know in the comments if you have any recs that you would like to share. I won’t leave my go-to’s, but if you want to recommend anyone in other cities like Chicago, LA or anywhere else, let me know!
Also let me know if you have had any experiences with the above experts!
